How loud is too loud?

There are a variety of laws which apply to loud car stereos, but they all work in different cases, and for different reasons.

If someone plays loud music from their car stereo when it is parked on private land or on the street and this happens on a regular basis, the police can take similar action as they would if the noise was coming from their house. While you are actually driving you would be less likely to cause a disturbance as you are only in one place for a short period of time, however if the music was loud enough to cause you to become distracted, the police could also take action against careless driving. The actions the police can take range from asking you to turn it down, to fines and penalty points on your licence.
